1. Overview #

This document describes the API precaution settings in Trader Workstation (TWS) that may affect automated orders submitted through the PickMyTrade TWS API integration.

These settings control whether TWS displays or enforces certain precautionary warnings when an order is submitted through an API connection.

Important: Disabling a precaution removes a safety warning/check from the API order flow. These settings should only be disabled when the corresponding risk has been reviewed and is intentionally handled by the trading system or strategy.

2. API Precautions Settings #

Navigate to the TWS API precaution settings and review the following options.

2.1 Bypass Order Precautions for API Orders #

Setting:
☐ Bypass Order Precautions for API Orders

Purpose:
Allows API-submitted orders to bypass certain standard order precaution warnings in TWS.

PickMyTrade:
Enable when API orders are expected to be submitted automatically without manual interaction with TWS precaution dialogs.

Precaution:
Only enable this if the order-generation logic has already validated the order parameters.

2.2 Bypass Bond Warning for API Orders #

Setting:
☐ Bypass Bond warning for API Orders

Purpose:
Prevents TWS from displaying the bond-related warning for API orders.

PickMyTrade:
Enable if PickMyTrade is sending bond orders through the API and the warning would otherwise interrupt automated order processing.

Precaution:
Verify that the bond instrument and order parameters are correct before bypassing the warning.

2.3 Bypass Negative Yield to Worst Confirmation for API Orders #

Setting:
☐ Bypass negative yield to worst confirmation for API Orders

Purpose:
Allows API orders to proceed without requiring confirmation when TWS detects a potentially negative yield-to-worst condition.

PickMyTrade:
Enable only if the strategy intentionally permits these orders.

Precaution:
Negative yield conditions can indicate an unusual bond pricing situation. Confirm that this behavior is expected before enabling the bypass.

2.4 Bypass Called Bond Warning for API Orders #

Setting:
☐ Bypass Called Bond warning for API Orders

Purpose:
Prevents TWS from requiring confirmation when an API order involves a bond that has been called.

PickMyTrade:
Enable if called-bond orders are intentionally supported by the trading strategy.

Precaution:
Confirm that the instrument being traded is still appropriate for the strategy.

2.5 Bypass “Same Action Pair Trade” Warning for API Orders #

Setting:
☐ Bypass “same action pair trade” warning for API orders

Purpose:
Allows API orders that may trigger TWS’s same-action pair-trade warning to proceed without manual confirmation.

PickMyTrade:
Enable when the trading strategy can intentionally generate these order combinations.

Precaution:
Review the strategy to ensure that duplicate or offsetting orders are not being generated accidentally.

2.6 Bypass Flagged Accounts Warning for API Orders #

Setting:
☐ Bypass Flagged Accounts warning for API orders

Purpose:
Allows API orders associated with accounts flagged by TWS to bypass the corresponding warning.

PickMyTrade:
Enable only when the account status and automated trading permissions have been verified.

Precaution:
This should receive additional review because account-level warnings may indicate an important restriction or risk condition.

2.7 Bypass Price-Based Volatility Risk Warning for API Orders #

Setting:
☐ Bypass price-based volatility risk warning for API Orders

Purpose:
Prevents TWS from interrupting API orders because of a price-based volatility risk warning.

PickMyTrade:
Enable if the strategy intentionally trades instruments experiencing significant price movements.

Precaution:
Make sure the strategy has its own controls for abnormal prices, slippage, and volatility.

2.8 Bypass Redirect Order Warning for Stock API Orders #

Setting:
☐ Bypass Redirect Order warning for Stock API Orders

Purpose:
Allows stock API orders to proceed without the Redirect Order warning.

PickMyTrade:
Enable when automated stock orders are expected to be submitted without manual intervention.

Precaution:
Confirm that the selected order routing behavior is appropriate for the strategy.

2.9 Bypass No Overfill Protection Precaution #

Setting:
☐ Bypass No Overfill Protection precaution for destinations where implied natively

Purpose:
Allows the precaution to be bypassed for destinations where overfill protection is already provided natively by the destination.

PickMyTrade:
Enable only for supported destinations where the native protection mechanism has been confirmed.

Precaution:
Do not assume that every destination provides equivalent protection. Verify the destination behavior before enabling this setting.

2.10 Bypass Route Marketable to BBO Warning for API Orders #

Setting:
☐ Bypass Route Marketable to BBO warning for API orders

Purpose:
Prevents TWS from displaying a warning when a marketable order may be routed to the current BBO (Best Bid and Offer).

PickMyTrade:
Enable when the strategy intentionally submits marketable API orders and the routing behavior is understood.

Precaution:
Review expected execution behavior, especially for fast-moving or less-liquid instruments.

3. Important Safety Note #

Do not enable every precaution simply because PickMyTrade requires automated API execution.

Each bypass should be evaluated individually. TWS precautions are designed to protect against unexpected order conditions. When a warning is bypassed, responsibility for detecting that condition effectively moves to the automated trading workflow.

For production use, the recommended approach is:

Review → Test → Validate → Enable only required bypasses → Monitor live orders.
